What's going on at Rathmines Veterinary Hospital!
Introducing.. Mac!
This little cutie here is our new clinic cat! After our poor Custard passed away last year, we were in need of another resident freeloader. Little Mac was found in someones backyard all by himself, brought to us and we all instantly fell in love with him.
Be sure to keep a lookout for him tearing around the hospital when you're next in! He's a cheeky little troublemaker with a big heart and lots of cuddles to give! :)

These little cuties were brought to us after they were found abandoned and terrified, near a garage that was set to be demolished!
Luckily, we found new homes for them in less than a week and they are all doing extremely well. :)

Things are getting busier and busier here as it starts to warm up! Remember with this warm weather, we'll start to see a lot more fleas around so come in and pick up something to treat your pet with so you don't end up with a plague! As well as fleas, make sure you have your pet on some sort of tick preventative as well (Advantix is great!) as August to January is the prime tick season.
Paralysis ticks are tiny when they first attach to your animal, and even if you have a preventative on your pet, no product is 100%, so make sure you search them daily.
Paralysis ticks are potentially deadly. They cause paralysis in a number of different forms, symptoms include:
- weakness in the back legs, progressing to the front legs
- altered bark or meow
- unco-ordinated and 'wobbly'
- vomiting, regurgitating, drooling
- cough or gag
- laboured breathing
- inability to stand up
If you notice any of the following, please call us immediately, as the sooner we treat them, the better!

Meet Lenny! He's a 1 year old Alexandrine parrot who sneakily escaped from his home and was found being attacked by two big crows! One of our clients brought him in here and we awaited a phone call from his owner so he could be returned, and luckily we recieved that phone call!
Lenny was very happy to be reunited with his owner!
Congratulations to our clients Steve & Jo on their wedding. As you can see in the photo, their sweet staffies helped in celebrating their special day and looked way too cute, Brutas in his tuxedo and Amalfi in her wedding dress!
Our next puppy preschool class is starting on the 31st and we're all looking forward to it! It will be the first puppy preschool class that Crystal will be teaching and it will be a lot of fun!
August 2011
We have 10 puppies doing Puppy Preschool at the moment, our first class graduated on the 9th of August.
Congratulations to Clyde the black labrador, Alice the toy poodle, Boondie the smithfield cattle dog, Roxy the jack russell and Lucy the border collie! Our second class graduated on the 17th of August, congratulations to Makita the great dane X, Rocko the dalmation X, Roxy the jack russell, Obie the staffy and Mitsy the kelpie X. We have some clever little puppies who we're sure (with the help of their loving owners) will grow up to be very happy and well behaved dogs!

HUGE thankyou to Peter & Jill Giles!
We had a very sick little Foxy cross, "Mia" in today and she was in urgent need of a blood transfusion after she got into some rat baits which were under the new house she moved into. Peter and Jill were only a phonecall away and had their gorgeous Shar Pei X Boxer "Betty" here to be a blood donor for Mia. All went very well and Mia is on the road to recovery! Thanks Peter, Jill and Betty!!

July 2011 -
What a dreary, wet month it's been! Many dogs are brought to us which have been found wandering around, perhaps they escaped if they were spooked by the rain? The only way we can find their owners is if we are notified that they're missing, and if their microchip details are kept updated, so make sure if you've had any change of details, you come and get a form to fill out so your friend can get home!
School holidays have made for a lot of catboarders this July! If you are planning a holiday, please make sure you book your cat in as soon as you know the dates, to secure their spot.
Tick season starts soon (August) so remember to treat your pet with a quality tick preventative. No product is 100% guaranteed so the best way to keep ticks off your pets is to search them all over, everyday!

Jodie's first day back after maternity leave! Not-so-little Lockie is doing great and came in with his grandma Jan to visit his working mum!
With the weather getting colder and colder, arthritis can be even more of a problem in winter, so if you notice your pet is slow to rise, has trouble getting up & down stairs, is lethargic and inactive, it may be worth bringing them in to see the vet so we can treat them appropriately.
Make sure your pet has somewhere warm and soft to sleep, and that it is dry and draught-free. Exercise them gently as vigorous games can aggravate their joints and cause lots of discomfort. "Winter weight" will also contributes to this so do your best to keep those extra kilos off your pets!

This month we welcomed our new nurse, Crystal, to our team! Her family breeds Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers and Crystal has been a familiar face here for a long time and is fitting in very quickly.
And just in case anyone was wondering, Solo the escapee cat, has been returned home safe & sound after David & Naomi interrupted her adventure around the industrial park!
